Takamakasar

Takamakasar is a small beautiful island located in the Komodo National Park area in Flores, Indonesia.

Taka is often referred to as the ‘Indonesian Maldives’ by tourists because the island has pink sand in the shape of a crescent surrounded by shallow turquoise waters that are smaller than a football field. This place just amazing.

It is called Takamakasar, comes from the word “Taka” which means shallow and “Makassar” comes from the area where the Bugis people came from who discovered this small island.

Apart from its unique shape resembling the number 9 or a crescent moon and being surrounded by crystal clear water, the surrounding underwater panorama is also stunnig.

This charm comes from the cluster of coral reefs which are a haven for many diverse species of marine life.

The button of the water around here is formed from dead coral, also home for anemones, microbes, crabs and other small fish. Moreover, the coral reefs here are still preserved in continuity to this day.

Takamakar is one of the best spots for snorkeling or diving in Komodo National Park.
